About Me

Hello! I’m Jasmine! A little bit about me is that I’m currently a business student and I was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia. I was raised on your average southern home cooking, but at sixteen I became interested in veganism. I developed a strong passion for the lifestyle, food, and had a shift in mindset. I love posting my favorite dishes on my Instagram and YouTube channel and made this blog as a platform to share elements of my life, what inspires and motivates me, vegan recipes, and all topics and information related to veganism!

Why I Went Vegan

I was never health conscious growing up. I was a constant consumer of fast food and fatty soul food and sweets, it was all I knew of. I danced growing up and my teachers always enphasized the importance of nutrition and it wasn’t until I was fifteen years old that I started switching my eating habits. I wanted to be healthy and found a true passion not eating just for the present, but to sustain a healthy and long life. I transitioned to pescetarianism initially to lose weight and gain healthier habits. After eating this way for about a year, I gained some unhealthy eating habits along the way that revolved around the central theme of restriction. I started to look into ways of eating that I could increase my healthy eating habits while still having the freedom to eat “unhealthy” foods without causing harm to my body. I stumbled upon Forks Over Knives on YouTube and ended up watching several other videos surrounding Dr. McDuoggal’s studies on veganism and was amazed by this way of eating that has cured so many diseases still believe to be incurable. I essentially went vegan because food truly is medicine and its so important that we eat foods that make our inner light shine as bright as it should.

Being an African American woman and someone the public health system isn’t always there for, I find it extremely important that the education on veganism and health be accessible to all, especially in our Black and Brown communities. Veganism is not a new way of eating at all, it goes back to Earth’s first day and has been a common part of cultures specifically in Africa and India. We are all truly connected to the Earth and all of its organisms. Eating what comes from the Earth is a constant exchange of energy and a display of gratitude for all things that the Earth grants to us. When people consume animals who have been disposed to negative energy, slaughterhouses, and more, they must realize that that energy goes right into them. Food is energy, and veganism delivers an abundance of positive energy that is essential to a fruitful life.

What is Planting Jasmines?

Planting Jasmines is a platform for not only inspiration and all things vegan, but a  place for growth, mentally, physically, and spiritually. I want to inspire as many people as I can in this life and this is one of the seeds I have planted in hopes of growing to reach others.
